Single Web Articles Split in Multiple Pages

It irks me so much when websites take a long article and break it into small pieces so each piece takes up a page. It's like a paragraph a page and you have to click 'next' a bunch of times to get through the article. I can't even begin to tell you how much this annoys me.

On top of that, some sites that have articles like this don't give you the links to each page number, e.g. " 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 ". Why the eff can't I skip to the part that I want to read?

And why do some of these sites not have a "printer-friendly version" so I can just read the whole article on a single page?

I'm not really asking; I know the answer. Sites want you to stay on their site longer, visit more of their pages, see more of their ads.

Jerks.

I can tolerate it *most* of the time (as long as it's not overly riddled with ads), but what irks me is when the page numbers are extremely difficult to find. It's even worse when it seems like the article doesn't continue (so it would seem understandable to not find a paging button).

I agree, why truncate(sp?) everything into different pages? Then I think, they want to increase mouse & page -per-clicks. This ultimately increases the amount of time we spend on the website and that's to their benefit despite how annoying it might make us when surfing or reading.

*noted that you mentioned this at the end of your rant and I'm just reiterating things. =)

Every time you accidentally click on an ad, the company smiles and a unicorn dies.
